PATIENT RIGHTS: ADMISSION STATUS NOTIFICATION

Based on a review of medical records (MR) and interview with staff (EMP) it was determined the facility failed to ensure patients right to have a family member and primary care provider notified of admission to the hospital for 10 of 15 medical records reviewed (MR1, MR2, MR3, MR4, MR5, MR6, MR7, MR8, MR9 and MR10).

Findings include.

A review on January 7, 2014, of MR1, MR2, MR3, MR4, MR5, MR6, MR7, MR8, MR9 and MR10 revealed the patient were admitted to the hospital. There was no documentation in the records that indicated that the patients were asked if they wanted a family representative or primary care provider notified of admission to the hospital.

Interview on January 7, 2014, at 2:55 PM with EMP5 confirmed that patients are not asked if they want their family representative or primary care physician notified of admission.

Interview on January 7, 2014, at 3:45 PM with EMP2 confirmed that there was no documentation contained in the medical records querying patients whether they wanted family representative or primary care physician notified of admission for MR1, MR2, MR3, MR4, MR5, MR6, MR7, MR8, MR9 and MR10. Further interview confirmed that there was no policy that addressed notification of family or primary care provider.
