NFPA 101 (2000) LIFE SAFETY CODE STANDARD - Building construction type and height must meet NFPA 101 (00) Chapter 19, Sections 19.1.6.1, 19.1.6.2., 19.1.6.3, 19.1.6.4, 19.3.5.1 and Table 19.1.6.2.
FINDINGS INCLUDE:
On 4/23/10 between 8:00 AM and 12:00 PM, while surveying the ceiling/roof assembly on the Second Floor of the original 1963 building, the following was observed:
1). The lay-in ceiling was not constructed as a 1-hour fire rated assembly, and;
2). Exposed metal bar joists, web trusses and corrugated metal roof deck pan were not protected with spray-applied fire proofing material, and;
3). There was no fire sprinkler system installed to protect the roof assembly, and;
4). Patient sleeping rooms, utility rooms and storage rooms on the Northwest and Northeast corridors were not sprinklered.
Based on the above findings, the construction type for the 1963 building was defined as Type II(000), 2-story, partially sprinklered, and did not meet the construction type limitations at NFPA 101 (00), Chapter 19, Table 19.1.6.2..
This finding was confirmed with the assistant building engineer (TM).
