INFECTION CONTROL PROGRAM

Based on findings from observation and interview, facility staff did not follow generally accepted standards of infection control in connection with storage of outdated supplies and medication.

Findings include:

-- Per observation in ED room #4 on 10/24/19 at 9:30 am, the following outdated supplies were available for patient use: a chest tube tray (expiration date 5/2019) a chest tray (expiration date 8/2018) and a tracheostomy tray (expiration date 3/2019).

-- Per observation on 10/24/19 at 9:35 am in the patient nourishment refrigerator located at the ED nurses station, two 100 milliliter bottles of Amoxicillin were noted in the refrigerator and one bottle lacked the date it was opened. Both were available for patient use.

-- During interview of Staff A (Vice President of Nursing Services) on 10/24/19 at 9:35 am, he/she acknowledged the above findings.
