Based on review of 1 of 3 closed records, as part of a complaint investigation, staff failed to insure the patient's right to informed consent by administering psychoactive medications without informing the patient the risks and benefits of the medication: Findings:
Citing patient #1, a 46 year old female admitted to the facility 10/14/2009; discharged 11/11/2009. Record review reflected the following 5 psychoactive medications were administered to the patient throughout hospitalization: Depakote, Remeron, Seroquel, Abilify and Lorazepam. Record review reflected Lorazepam was administered to the patient after risks and benefits were discussed and after the patient's written consent was secured. However, the patient was administered the remaining 4 psychoactive medication without explaining risks and benefits and without securing the patient's written consent.
