Based on observation and interview the facility failed to ensure the privacy of patients were protected when the last name of the patient was posted on electronic boards and wipe boards in view of the public. This affected all patients. The census was 176.
Observation on 9/30/10 at 10:35 a.m. in the Emergency Department revealed seven electronic boards with the last names of patients in full view of anyone who came into the Emergency Department.
An interview on 9/30/10 at 11:30 a.m. the Chief Clinical Officer B stated all electronic and wipe boards contained the last name of the patient and the facility understood this was acceptable practice. He/she stated the boards would be changed immediately to comply with the regulation's intent.
