Tag No.: C1206
Based on medical record review, policy review, and staff interview, the facility failed to follow their policy for cleaning of equipment in rooms of discharged patients. This has the potential to affect all patients cared for in this facility.
Findings include:
On 11/20/23 a tour of the medical-surgical unit was completed. Located in empty clean Room #200, Room #203 and Room #210 were Baxter intravenous (IV) pumps with brown residue splash marks on the outside and brown residue on the inside. These findings were verified with the Manager of the Medical Surgical Unit (Staff D) during the tour.
Review of the facility policy titled "General Cleaning of Discharge Rooms," dated 09/28/23, revealed the policy instructs environmental staff (EVS) to wet wipe with hospital approved germicidal solutions to include counter tops, blood pressure cuffs and IV pumps.
Interview on 11/21/23 at 10:00 AM with Staff A verified the policy was not followed in regards to cleaning the IV pumps. Staff A further stated EVS do not open and clean the inside of these pumps
