Based on an onsite EMTALA survey of 7/29/2014 including tour, review of policy and procedure, interviews, and review of 24 patient records, it is revealed that that hospital failed to post EMTALA signage at entrances to the Emergency Department.
Tour of the Emergency Department entrances on June 29, 2014 at approximately 10 am for the walk-in and ambulace bay areas of the emergency department area, revealed no EMTALA signage as required by regulation to inform individuals who lacked the ability to pay of the right to an evaluation and treatment of emergency medical conditions. No evidence was found that EMTALA signage was ever in place as required by regulation.
Prior to survey close, two prominently displayed EMTALA signs were mounted ; one in the ambulance bay area, and one at the walk-in entrance of the Emergency Department.
