Tag No.: A0130

Based on review of one of ten medical records it was determined the Hospital failed to appropriately respond to Patient #1 regarding Patient #1's imput into her/his discharge from the ED.

Findings include:

1.) The Complainant alleged the Hospital did not ensure safe and appropriate plans for discharge because the Patient #1, who had no way to get home, was discharged at 1:30 AM from the Emergency Department (ED) to the street.

2.) Nurse #2 was interviewed on 10/21/10 at 2:30 PM. Nurse #2 said Patient #1 told her/him, that she/he had no money to get home and that no one could come and get her/him.

3.) The Nursing Supervisor was interviewed by telephone at approximately 1:30 PM on 10/21/10. The Nursing Supervisor said Patient #1 reported she no way to get home. The Nursing Supervisor said she/he asked Patient #1 if she had money for a taxi, and Patient #1 reported that she/he had no money for cab and stated how do you expect me to pay my bills? The Supervisor said she asked the secretary to look for coupons, the secretary found coupons that totaled about $ 5.00, gave them to Patient #1 and she/he left the Hospital.
