Based on document reviews and interviews, the hospital failed to provide a medical screening examination with the capability of the hospital's Emergency Department for a patient who was seeking care in one (1) of twenty (20) ED patient records reviewed (Patient #5).
Finding:
-On 4/16/2025 at approximatley 6:00 PM, patient and guadian presented to the hospital seeking Emergency Care
-Guardian commented to registrar that the Emergency Department "looked busy".
-Registrar commented that services were also available at the Walk-in Clinic which resulted in the patient and guardian leaving the emergency department prior to the patient being registered for care. This action resulted in the patient not receiving a medical screening exam.
-Patient and guardian were instructed by the Walk-in Clinic to return to the Emergency Department as the Walk-in Clinic was not able to treat the patient's injury.
-Patient and guardian returned to the Emergency Department for treatment.
-The facility took the following actions:
-Investigated the incident
-Reeducated the registration staff regarding EMTALA laws and requirements.
These events lead to the hospital failing to provide a Medical Screening Exam for this patient.
