Based on document review, it was determined that 1 of 20 (Patient 20) medical records reviewed of patients who presented to the hospital requesting emergency services, the facility failed to ensure compliance with 489.24 in that the facility failed to provide a complete medical screening exam.

Based on document review, the facility failed to provide an appropriate medical screening exam (MSE) for 1 of 20 patients (patient #20).
Findings include;
1. Facility policy titled Treatment in the Emergency Department Procedure last approved 12/21/24 indicates under Key Points: "A. Persons seeking emergency care shall receive an appropriate medical screening examination without regard to ability to pay."
2. Review of patient # 20's medical record (MR), indicated the following:
(A) The patient was a 90 y/o (year/old) brought into the Emergency Department (ED) by ambulance stating he/she had fallen at home yesterday (02/24/2025) while walking to the bathroom with his/her walker. He/she laid on the floor for several hours until the caretaker found him/her. Patient stated he/she hurt his/her right eye and right knee during the fall. Nursing assessments indicated right knee swelling and tenderness and right eye bruising/tender and head/face tenderness with headache to right eye and between eyebrows.
(B) The MSE lacked evidence of complete examination that included examination of the right lower extremity and the facial bruising and tenderness.
