Based on document review and interview, it was determined that for 1 of 2 Nurse Technicians (E #4), the Hospital failed to ensure that privacy of confidential information was maintained. This has the potential to affect all 12 patients on the CDU (Clinical Decision Unit) on the census for 10/29/18.
Findings include:
1. On 10/30/18 at approximately 9:00 AM, the Hospital's policy entitled "Social Media Policy" (5/7/2018) was reviewed and required "...Hospital staff is not allowed to contact patients on social media to carry out job responsibilities..."
2. On 10/30/18 at approximately 9:10 AM, the Nurse Technician (E#4) stated that he did message Pt #1 on Facebook after Pt #1 was discharged from the hospital. E #4 stated that he asked Pt #1 (on Facebook) about her pain. E #4 stated that Pt #1 did not respond.
3. On 10/30/18 at approximately 10:30 AM, an interview was conducted with the Director of Accreditation and Clinical Compliance (E#1). E #1 stated that it was against the Hospital's policy for E #4 to contact Pt #1 on Facebook.
