Based on document review and interview, it was determined that 1 of 20 (Patient 20) medical records reviewed of patients who presented to the hospital requesting emergency services, the facility failed to ensure compliance with 489.24 in that the facility failed to provide a medical screening exam.

Based on document review and interview, the facility failed to provide a medical screening on 1 of 20 (Patient 20) patients who presented to the Emergency Department.
Findings Include:
1. Review of policy titled: Screening and Transfer of Emergency or Unstable Patients (PolicyStat ID: 6372591) last approved 07/30/19, indicated that all patients who present to facility for emergency care will receive a medical screening exam regardless of the ability to pay.
2. Review of policy titled: Triage -...Emergency Department (PolicyStat ID: 6776118) last approved 09/05/2019, indicated that all patients presenting to the Emergency Medicine and Trauma Center will be triaged by a Registered Nurse.
3. Review of summary of the EMTALA violation, complaint from this facility, indicated Patient 20 presented to the Emergency Department on 11/30/21.
4. Patient 20 did not have a medical record for 11/30/21.
5. Interview on 01/12/22 at 10:45 am with P51 (Regulatory Consultant) confirmed that Patient 20 did not receive Triage by a Registered Nurse or a Medical Screening Exam.
