Based on document review and interview, the facility failed to ensure the nursing staff correctly administered medication as specified by facility policy and physician order for 1 of 10 patients (P1) .
Findings include:
1. Facility "Medication Administration and Management," Policystat: 7053501, last approved 11/26/2019, indicates that team members must administer medications and perform the 5 rights and 4 checks on all medications. The rights and checks are: right patient, right medication, right dose, right time, right route, right documentation, right action, right form, and right response.
2. Review of P1's MR indicates that a patient controlled analgesia (PCA) pump was ordered by F1 providers to help manage the patient's surgical pain post operatively.
3. Interview with S4, Manager, 3S, at 1400 hours on 7/21/2022, confirmed that P1's patient controlled analgesia (PCA) pump was left clamped the evening of the 6/13/2022 until discovered the morning of 6/14/2022. P1 did not receive the prescribed medication in the right amount, and and the right time as required by facility policy.
