Tag No.: A0117

Based on review of the facility policies and procedures, and medical records (MR), and interviews with staff (EMP) it was determined the facility failed to ensure patients who were Medicare recipients received the initial Important Message from Medicare (IMM) in two out of ten medical records reviewed (MR17 and MR18).

Review on August 11, 2020, of facility policy, "Important Message from Medicare" dated January 22, 2019, revealed "Policy All Medicare and Medicare Advantage patients will be provided with notification of their rights to appeal their hospital discharge. The Important Message from Medicare (IMM) will be provided to patients within two calendar days of admission."

Review on August 11, 2020, of MR17, admitted on July 30, 2020, and MR18, admitted on July 19, 2020, revealed there was no documented evidence that these patients received the "Important Message from Medicare".
Interview with EMP4 on August 11, 2020, at 1:30 PM, confirmed that all patients who are Medicare recipients and admitted to the hospital are required to have a signed "Important Message from Medicare" within 48 hours of admission. EMP4 further confirmed there was no documented evidence in MR17 and MR18 that these patients received the initial "Important Message from Medicare".
