7-2.2.1
Automatic fire-extinguishing systems shall be installed in accordance with the terms of their listing, the manufacturer"s instructions, and the following standards where applicable.
(a) NFPA 12, Standard on Carbon Dioxide Extinguishing Systems
(b) NFPA 13, Standard for the Installation of Sprinkler Systems
(c) NFPA 17, Standard for Dry Chemical Extinguishing Systems
(d) NFPA 17A, Standard for Wet Chemical Extinguishing Systems

Chapter 9 - Inspection, Maintenance and Recharging
9-3 Maintenance.
9-3.1*
At least semiannually, maintenance shall be conducted in accordance with the manufacturer's listed installation and maintenance manual.
f) Where the maintenance of the system(s) reveals defective parts that could cause an impairment or failure of proper operation of the system(s), the affected parts shall be replaced or repaired in accordance with the manufacturers' recommendations.
This Standard is not met as evidenced by:
Based on review of facility documentation it was determined the hospital failed to maintain the range hood extinguishing system as required by NFPA 96 and 17A.
Findings include:
1. On 08/30/10 at approximately 2:30 p.m., the facility range hood extinguishing system report for the previous six (6) month period was reviewed. This report was prepared by Fire Protection Products Incorporated and dated 07/23/10. The following issues were cited as non-compliance on this report:
a. All cooking surfaces are protected.
b. Check piping and conduit.
c. Check position of nozzles.
d. UL300 compliance (NO).
The following comments were listed for the aforementioned issues:
1) System must have UL300 upgrade, pull station lowered to forty eight (48) inches, four (4) new detectors, duct nozzles repiped above dampers or dampers removed, and appliance's repiped.
2. On 08/31/10 at 9:00 a.m. a non-compliance service inspection red tag was observed attached to the range hood fire suppression pull station located in the kitchen. The service tag indicated non compliance for the following reasons:
a. Improper duct plenum, appliance coverage and piping, and detect lines not per manufacturer's specifications.
