A. Based on observation and staff interview, it was determined that the Hospital failed to ensure signs were posted in the entrance area or waiting room indicating all patients' rights for an examination for emergency medical condition and women in labor.
Findings include:
1. A tour of the Emergency Department (ED) was conducted on 3/6/12 at approximately 9:35 AM. The Emergency Department, entrance, greeter's desk, waiting room, triage room, and registration was observed. There was no signage relative to the rights of individuals to examination and treatment of emergency medical condition and women in Labor.
2. The Clinical Nurse Manager was interviewed on 3/6/12 at approximately 9:35 AM. The Manager indicated that the ED was temporarily moved for renovation and was completed in mid December 2011. The Manager indicated that the sign was taken down for the renovation however, she did not know where the sign was and why it was not posted. The above findings were confirmed with the Clinical Nurse Manager and the Lead ED Physician during the tour and interview at 9:35 AM.
