Bringing transparency to federal inspections
Tag No.: A0749
Based on observation, interview, and document review expired supplies were available for use. These findings could impact patient safety.
Findings include:
-- Per observation in the post anesthesia care unit (PACU) on 7/23/2024 at 9:30 am, 2 expired (2/1/2024) irrigation trays with bulb syringe kits were found in the clean storage area.
-- Per interview of Staff A, Nurse Manager, on 7/23/2024 at 9:30 am and on 7/24/2024 at 3:15 pm, PACU staff do not check patient care items for expiration dates on a routine basis. Staff only check the expiration date when pulling items for use.
-- Review of the facility's policy and procedure titled "Storage Areas," last revised 7/2024, "a monthly inspection to detect outdated medical supplies must be performed, documented and maintained in the facility's departments."
-- During interview of Staff B, Associate Vice President and Chief Quality Officer, on 7/24/2024 at 4:00 pm, they confirmed the above findings.
