Based on record review and interview, the hospital failed to follow its process for prompt resolution of patient grievances by failing to investigate a patient's report of abuse for 1 (Patient #1) of 1 sampled patients who reported abuse in a total sample of 10 patients.
Findings:
Review of the hospital's log of reported grievances for the last 3 months failed to include documented evidence of any grievances reported from Patient #1 during his stay from 07/09/21-07/22/21.
On 9/01/21 at 10:45a.m., an interview with S1RN, Unit 2G Nurse Manager, confirmed she was aware of the grievance from Patient #1 regarding S2Resident Physician being rude during wound care and causing pain during the procedure. She stated the patient had verbally reported the incident to her and that he had told the physician to "not come in his room again."
S1RN, Unit 2G Nurse Manager confirmed she did not conduct an investigation into the complaint received by Patient #1 regarding S2Resident Physician.
On 09/01/21 at 1:00p.m., an interview with S3Patient Advocate confirmed that she had not been made aware of the complaint from Patient #1 regarding S2Resident Physician during the wound care, but confirmed the incident should have been considered a grievance, requiring an investigation and a written letter of resolution to the patient, as required by the hospital's grievance process.
