Based on interviews and documentation review the Hospital failed to notify the Department of Public Health of recent changes to the Pediatric Unit.
Findings included:
The survey determined that the Hospital had recently closed the original Pediatric Unit which was a distinct secure Unit due to low census and financial difficulties. The Hospital relocated the Pediatric Unit to become a sub-unit of the Medical/Surgical floor. The relocation involved taking space from the Medical/Surgical Unit and from the Mother-Baby Unit and included some structural changes.
The Vice President of Facility Development, the Vice President of Quality, and the Director of Facilities were interviewed together on 7/27/10 at 10:45 A.M. They reported the changes to the Pediatric Unit were not communicated to the Department of Public Health because it was felt the changes were minor and did not require reporting.
The Vice President of Facility Development said the Department would be notified immediately.
