Portable Space Heaters

Based on observation and staff interview, the facility allowed the use of space heaters with heating elements that exceeded the maximum allowable temperature. This condition created the potential for the ignition of combustibles.

Findings are:
Observation on 12/18/19, from 11:30 am to 11:41 am revealed:
1. A convection-style space heater was observed in the Human Resources Office.
2. A convection-style space heater was observed in the Pharmacy.

In an interview on 12/18/19, from 11:30 am to 11:41 am, Maintenance A acknowledged the use of the space heaters, and confirmed the heating elements exceeded 212 degrees Fahrenheit.

Electrical Equipment - Power Cords and Extens

Based on observation and staff interview, the facility allowed the use of power strips in a way that created a fire hazard. This condition had the potential to cause a fire.

Findings are:
Observation on 12/18/19, from 11:03 am to 11:22 am revealed:
1. Appliances were plugged into a power strip in lieu of hardwired outlets in the Lab Manager Office.
2. A power strip was daisy chained into a battery backup power strip in the Acute IT Room, in lieu of a hardwired outlet.

In an interview on 12/18/19, from 11:03 am to 11:22 am, Maintenance acknowledged the findings.
