Based on observation and interview the facility failed to ensure EMTALA signs were posted in all areas patients may wait for emergency treatment. In 3 of 3 areas (Emergency Department {ED}, the ED entrance, ED exam rooms and the OB {obstetrics} triage area) there were no signs. This deficiency has the potential to affect all patients served by the emergency department.
Findings include:
During a tour of the ED on 06/03/15 at 1:30 PM, there were no EMTALA signs in the entrance to the ED nor in treatment rooms. A tour of the OB department on 06/03/15 at 1:40 PM revealed their triage rooms did not contain EMTALA signs. Per interview with RN (Registered Nurse) A, on 06/03/15 at 1:44 PM, there are no EMTALA signed in the ED's 28 treatment rooms, 4 OB triage rooms and one ED entrance. RN A claimed not to be aware of a requirement for EMTALA signs to be posted in exam rooms.
