Based on interview and record review the hospital failed to ensure that the Interm Director of Nursing (DON) meet the education qualification required to hold this position. The director has only a bachelor's degree in nursing and does not have a master's degree.
Interview with staff #13, facility's CEO on 2/28/13 at 9:00am revealed he was interviewing someone for the position stated above and added that it has been hard to get an RN with master's degree in mental health.
Interview with staff #6, The Interim Director of Nursing on 2/28/13 at 12:30 pm revealed that she is the Interim Director of Nursing and does not possess a Master's degree. The Interim Director confirmed what staff # 13 stated above in terms of hiring an RN with master's in mental health.
Record review of the Hospital's "Organizational Flow Chart" listed the "Director of Nursing position "Vacant."
Record review of the personnel file for the Interim Director of Nursing (ID# 50) on 2/28/13 revealed she did not have a Master's degree.
Record review of a job description titled "Director of Nursing" dated 12/1/11 on 2/28/13 stated "Requirements: Must be a licensed registered nurse with either a Master's degree, actively pursing a Master's degree..."
