This requirement is NOT MET as evidenced by:
Based on observations made during tour and staff interview, it was determined that the facility failed to ensure that the surgery center maintained a smoke barrier with at least a one hour fire resistance rating. This could affect all individuals utilizing the services of the surgery center.
Springfield Regional Medical Center has a capacity of 254 beds with a census of 202 patients at the time of the survey. The surgery center performed 1800 patient procedures in 2011.
Findings include:
Tour was conducted with Staff AA, Staff EE, and Staff FF on 1/11/12 from 1:55 PM until 2:40 PM. Observation was made of the smoke barrier that divided this 12,502 square foot, fully sprinklered facility into two smoke compartments. There were unsealed penetrations observed in the smoke barrier above the smoke doors in pre-op. These included openings around a large white pipe, around three conduit, and around two copper pipes; and a sleeve with green and white cables was not sealed. These findings were confirmed by Staff FF during the tour.
