Based on observation, interview and hospital policy review the facility failed to meet nutritional needs in accordance with recognized dietary practices in two of twelve food preparation areas when unlabeled, undated food items were found in a freezer and a refrigerator.
Findings include:

On August 11, 2011 at 1:10 p.m. a package of open, unlabeled, undated veggie burgers were found in a freezer in the kitchen. On August 11, 2011 at 1:20 p.m. a pantry area on the 9th floor medical surgical floor was toured with the following findings: an unlabeled, undated bowl of soup; an unlabeled, undated bowl of cold salad; and an undated turkey sandwich with sliced tomato. Employee (D) confirmed that the items were unlabeled and undated as outlined above and should be labeled and dated per facility policy.

The facility policy titled Food Preparation and Storage, dated October, 2010 indicates that left over and opened containers will be labeled with the date the food was cooked or opened.
