Based on staff interview, medical record review, and document review, the facility failed to notify 1 of 9 patient's family member about their admission to the facility. This denied the patient's (Patient 1's) right to such notification.
Findings:
A review of Patient 1's Admission Questions Assessment contained in her medical record, on 1/13/21 at 2 p.m., indicated Patient 1 requested her husband be notified of her admission to the facility.
During an interview and concurrent medical record review on 1/13/21 at 3:22 p.m., Management Staff A was asked to find documentation in Patient 1's medical record indicating that her husband had been notified of her admission to the facility. Management Staff A stated: "[It's] not documented in the shift event, where it's normally done by nursing." She stated there was mention in Physician B's History and Physical, dated four days after admission, that Physician B had spoken with Patient 1's husband.
Review of a spiritual care note, dated seven days after Patient 1's admission, indicated the patient's husband had been contacted by the spiritual care department seven days after her admission to the facility.
Review of the "Patient Rights" document given to patients upon admission to the facility, indicated: "You have the right to ...have a family member (or other representative of your choosing) and your own physician notified promptly of your admission to the hospital."
Review of the facility policy titled, "Patient Rights and Responsibilities, B1-74", revised 9/2018, indicated: "You have the right to ...have a family member (or other representative of your choosing) and your own physician notified promptly of your admission to the hospital."
