Bringing transparency to federal inspections

Based on interview and document review, the facility failed to ensure proper infection control measures were followed by staff in cleaning of ER rooms after discharge/transfer of patients Covid positive that received aerosol treatments or intubation.
Findings:
1. Per CDC: Re: Covid Positive patients who have received aerosol treatments- After discharge, terminal cleaning can be performed by EVS personnel. They should delay entry into the room until time has elapsed for enough air changes to remove potentially infectious particles. After this time has elapsed, EVS personnel can enter the room and should wear a facemask (for source control) along with a gown and gloves when performing terminal cleaning. Eye protection should be added if splashes or sprays during cleaning and disinfection activities are anticipated or otherwise required based on the selected cleaning products. Shoe covers are not recommended at this time for personnel caring for patients with SARS-CoV-2 infection.
2. Per interviews on 8/31/2021 with Personnel A1 (Chief Nursing Officer) at 1040 hours, Staff N4 (Environmental Services Manager) at 1105 hours and N6 (Registered Nurse, Emergency Department (ED) Director) at 1135 hours there is no wait time to enter the room for cleaning of patients discharged/transferred from ED that were Covid positive and received aerosol treatments/intubation.
