PATIENT RIGHTS: INFORMED CONSENT

Based on clinical record review and interview, it was determined the Facility failed to ensure consents to treat were obtained for seven (#2, #6, #8-#11 and #13) of 15 (#1-#15) Emergency Department (ED) patients. Failure to obtain consent did not ensure the patient was aware of and was agreeable to the treatment being provided. The failed practice had the likeliness of affecting all patients admitted to the ED. Findings follow.
A. Review of clinical records revealed no evidence of a consent to treat for seven (#2, #6, #8-#11 and #13) of 15 (#1-#15) ED patients.
B. During an interview on 02/22/17 at 1425, the Chief Nursing Officer confirmed the lack of consents.
