Based on interviews, review of grievance log and policies and procedures, the facility failed to ensure written notification was given to the patient and/or families that included the facility decision, name of the hospital contact person, investigation of the grievance, and the date of completion for 1 of 4 patients reviewed (#2).
The findings included:
Interview with Nurse A on 11/18/2021 at 9:50 a.m. noted patient #2 notified her on 09/26/2021 on or about 8:30 a.m. of bruising and abrasions she found on her newborn when the nurse brought the baby back from the nursery. Nurse A stated she observed the areas and reported patient's concerns to Charge Nurse K and to Dr. (Doctor) E.
Interview with Dr. E. on 11/18/2021 at 3:05p.m. stated she observed the areas of concern and instructed Charge Nurse K to inform the Administrator On Duty.
Review of the complaint/grievance log revealed a grievance filed by patient was submitted on 09/26/2021.
Review of facility's Patient Complaint & Grievance Policy (NRS Policy Number NRS1477) noted "Grievances require a written response", and "written acknowledgement is provided within 7 business days to confirm receipt of grievance."
Interviews with Customer Relations Specialist on 11/17/2021 at 3:52 p.m. who manages Complaints and Grievances, and interview with Risk Manager on 11/18/2021 at 3:30 p.m. confirmed there was no written notice with the facility decision, investigation, or completion date of the grievance provided to patient #2.
