Bringing transparency to federal inspections
Tag No.: A0724
Based on policy review, observation and interview, the hospital's biomedical staff failed to ensure all medical equipment was inspected and maintained according to hospital policy.
The findings included:
1. Review of the policy "Medical Equipment Maintenance Frequencies" revealed, "The hospital identifies in writing frequencies for inspecting, testing and maintaining medical equipment on the inventory based on criteria such as manufacturer's recommendations, risk levels, or current hospital experience ..."
2. Observations in the Emergency Department on 4/28/2021 at 12:05 PM, revealed 2 of the 3 Dinomap machines (technology used to monitor blood pressure, temperature and pulse oximetry) in the ED triage area had not been inspected since 4/20/2019. The biomedical sticker on the Dinomap machines indicated the next inspection of the equipment was due 4/20/2020.
3. In an interview on 4/28/2021 at 1:30 PM, the Manager of Biomedical Services stated the Dinomap machines should be inspected annually per manufacturer's recommendations. He verified the inspections were not up to date for the 2 pieces of equipment.
