PATIENT RIGHTS: NOTICE OF RIGHTS

Based on observation, staff interview, and review of facility policy and procedure, it was determined the facility failed to ensure each patient is informed of their rights.

Findings include:

Reference: Facility policy titled, "Patient Rights and Responsibilities" states, "...Procedure: I. All hospitalized patients... B. Each patient room shall have posted conspicuously a copy of the summary of the patient rights and responsibilities... D. A complete statement of the law relating to patient rights (New Jersey Administrative Code 8:43G-4) shall be maintained on each care center and in patient care areas."

1. On 4/5/22 at 10:05 AM, during a tour of the Emergency Department (ED), Patient Rights signage were not observed in the following patient care areas: waiting room, patient bays within the ED, or in any patient rooms.

a. Upon interview, Staff #2 confirmed Patient Rights signage was removed from the rooms and has not been replaced.

2. At 10:18 AM, an interview with Staff #4 revealed a copy of the summary of Patient Rights and Responsibilities is not provided to ED patients unless they are admitted to the facility.

3. The above findings were confirmed with Staff #1 and Staff #22 on 4/6/22 at 2:45 PM.
