PATIENT RIGHTS: RESTRAINT OR SECLUSION

Based on document review and interview, in 1 of 1 Psychiatric Technicians's personnel file (Staff A) reviewed, it lacked evidence of training in First Aid. This lack of training could place patients at risk for potential harm.

Findings include:

-- Per review of "Psychiatric Technician Job Description," (not dated) it indicated one of the job responsibilities is to assist in restraining patients who may become physically violent. One of the job requirements is BLS (Basic Life Support) certification. (The job description did not indicate First Aid training was required.)

-- Per review of Staff A's Personnel File, it lacked evidence of First Aid training.

-- Per review of facility's policy and procedure (P&P) titled "Restraint Policy Ver 1," date published 8/2/2019, it indicated all staff that apply restraint or seclusion, monitor, access or provide care for a patient in restraint or seclusion is required to receive education and training in First Aid techniques.

-- Per interview of Staff A on 5/9/22 at 11:00 am, he/she did not have any First Aid training.

-- Per interview of Staff B, Employment Specialist on 5/10/22 at 10:30 am, he/she confirmed Staff A did not have documentation of First Aid training in his/her personnel file.
