Based on tour of the dietary department on 03/22/12 at 9:00 AM and 11:30 AM by two surveyors and four dietary employees (#'s I, J, K, and L) it was determined the safety of patients was not maintained in regard to kitchen sanitation. The hospital census was 148.
Findings include:
Tour of the kitchen on 03/22/12 at 9:00 AM revealed three cans of whipped topping in the walk in cooler that had been opened but did not have the lids in place.
Observation of the walk in refrigerator revealed a gelatin cart containing racks of single serving gelatin cups. The large plastic bag used to cover the open gelatin cups was found lifted leaving the food uncovered.
The four door cooler was found to have flaking rust on the storage racks.
An uncovered cobbler was found in the food warmer at 9:30 AM and there was no method of checking temperatures in the warmer.
The pizza warmer contained five uncovered pizzas, and the open cookie cart contained five trays of uncovered cookies.
Pages of recipes were found hanging, within an inch, above deli meats and cheeses in the food line area.
This was verified by two dietary managers and employe I and J during the kitchen tour.

Based on Life Safety Code Inspection completed on 03/22/12 it was determined the hospital failed to show compliance with Life Safety Code requirements. The hospital census was 148.
