Based on the interview and record review, the hospital failed to ensure that the licensed nurse who provided services in the hospital adhered to the policies and procedures of the hospital.

Findings included:

Patient # 1 admitted on 11/10/2022 at 13:40 and delivered Patient #2 on 11/11/20222 at 12:27 PM. Patient #2 required supplemental feeding for hypoglycemic intervention, which included bottle feeding and syringe feeding. Personnel # 2 provided verbal instruction on supplemental feeding through a syringe. Personnel #2 failed to demonstrate removing the blue plastic piece (safety tip) from the syringe and an opportunity for a return demonstration on syringe feeding.

Outcome
Patient # 2 received syringe feeding from Patient #1. Patient #1 did not remove the blue plastic piece prior to syringe feeding Patient #2. Patient #2 ingested the blue plastic piece.

During an interview on 11/17/22 at 10:00 AM. Personnel # 1 and Personnel #2 were informed of the above findings Personnel 1 and Personnel # 2 confirmed the above findings.
