Based on observation and staff interview the facility fails to properly maintain their electrical systems in accordance with NFPA 70. The deficient practice would affect no patients, and all visitors and staff in 1 of 3 smoke zones. The facility has a capacity of 38 with a census of 20 at the time of the survey.
Findings include:
During the survey conducted on 12/30/21 the following deficiency is noted:
1. During the survey at 11:15 AM, it is observed in the IT room near the front entrance that there is a data cable added to a bundle of cables going through the ceiling tiles and into the air plenum of the corridor. There is no documentation available to confirm the data cable added is up to plenum wiring standards.
Staff A was present and acknowledged the finding.
NFPA Standard: Electrical wiring and equipment shall be in accordance with NFPA 70, National Electrical Code, unless existing installations, which shall be permitted to be continued in service, subject to approval by the authority having jurisdiction. 2012 NFPA 101, 9.1.2 NFPA 90A 4.3.11.2.6.1 Electrical wires and cables and optical fiber cables shall be listed as having a maximum peak optical density of 0.50 or less, an average optical density of 0.15 or less, and a maximum flame spread distance of 5 ft or less when tested in accordance with NFPA 262 Standard Method of Test for Flame Travel and Smoke of Wires and Cables for use in air handling spaces, or shall be installed in metal raceways without an overall non metallic covering, metal sheathed cable without an overall non metallic covering, or totally enclosed non ventilated metallic busway without an overall non metallic covering.
