Based on an interview and observation during the survey walk through while accompanied by the Director of Facility Operation, the facility failed to install and maintain automatic sprinkler protection to comply with NFPA 101-2000, 19.3.5, NFPA 13-1999, Chapter 5.
Findings include:
A. On April 17, 2015 at 10:55am, the facility failed to provide a means to automatically disconnect the main power supply to elevators prior to the application of water from the activation of a fire sprinkler system in the Center building's elevator machine rooms. (A17.1, 102.2.c.3).
1. The elevator machine rooms did not have sprinkler protection, or a heat detector within 2' of a sprinkler head tied to a shunt trip to comply with NFPA-72, Section 3-9.4, and ASME A17.1, Section 102.2(c)(3) and NFPA 13 5-13.5.
