Based on interview, the facility failed to safeguard confidential health information for one patient (Patient 1).
Findings:
On 7/27/10 at 1:30 pm, Administrative Staff A related the following:
On 5/31/10, she received a telephone call from CNA B to inform her that Environmental Staff (EN) C had been discussing the details of Patient 1's recent accident in a crowded supermarket.
On 7/27/10 at 1:50 pm, CNA B stated that she was in line at the supermarket behind EN Staff C who turned to her began discussing Patient 1's recent fall in a loud voice. CNA B stated that when she reminded EN C they shouldn't be discussing this, EN C "laughed it off." CNA B stated that EN C revealed that Patient 1 had a fall, the nature of the injuries, and that Patient 1 was transferred to another facility for evaluation. Patient 1's responsible party was immediately notified of the incident.
