The inspector observed, while accompanied by the Director of Outside Maintenance / Construction Services 1:15 PM to 3:15 PM on 2/19/2015 that there were the following issues. A number of double smoke barrier doors failed to latch when closed and these doors need to have astragals installed.
2786 2000 NEW: Door openings in smoke barriers have at least a 20 minute fire protection rating or are at least 13/4 inch thick solid bonded core wood. Non-rated protective plates that do not exceed 48 inches from the bottom of the door are permitted. Horizontal sliding doors comply with 7.2.1.14. Swinging doors shall be arranged so that each door swings in an opposite direction. Doors shall be self-closing and rabbets, bevels or astragals are required at the meeting edges. Positive latching is not required. 18.3.7.5, 18.3.7.6, 18.3.7.8

Electrical Light Switches
The inspector observed, while accompanied by the Director of Outside Maintenance / Construction Services 1:15 PM to 3:15 PM on 2/19/2015 that there were the following issues. In the patient room, the emergency power light switch and the normal power light switch were side by side within one electrical box. This is only allowed if the switches are separated by a plastic or metal divider. This divider was missing. This may be an issue for all patient care rooms.
NFPA 70, 2002: 517.30 (C)(1) ..... Separation from Other Circuits. The life safety branch and critical branch of the emergency system shall be kept entirely independent of all other wiring and equipment and shall not enter the same raceways, boxes, or cabinets with each other or other wiring.
