Based on record review and staff interview the facility failed to use varied conditions when performing fire drills. The deficient practice may prevent the simulation of unusual conditions occurring in case of a fire, affecting all smoke zones. This facility has a capacity of 74 and a census of 34 residents.

FINDINGS INCLUDE:

During a review of records on 7/9/13 the following is observed:

1.) At 9:30 A.M. it is discovered that Fire drills are not varied in time for all shifts.

The Facility & Security Manager was present and acknowledged the finding.

NFPA Standard: Requires drills be conducted at least quarterly on each shift under varied conditions to simulate the unusual conditions occurring in case of fire. The fire alarm shall be transmitted during drills although a coded announcement may be used between 9:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m. 2000 NFPA 101, 19.7.1.2

Based on observation and staff interview the facility failed to maintain means of egress. The deficient practice may delay the occupants from exiting safely, affecting one of two smoke zones. This facility has a capacity of 74 and a census of 34 residents.

FINDINGS INCLUDE:

During the survey conducted on 7/9/13, the following is observed:

1.) At 1:30 P.M. it is discovered that there is a Bed and cabinet located in the exit corridor.

NFPA Standard: There shall be no obstructions by railings, barriers, or gates that divide the open space into sections appurtenant to individual rooms, apartments, or other occupied spaces. Where the authority having jurisdiction finds the required path of travel to be obstructed by furniture or other movable objects, the authority shall be permitted to require that such objects be secured out of the way or shall be permitted to require that railings or other permanent barriers be installed to protect the path of travel against encroachment.
