Based on observation and interview, the provider failed to post signs specifying the rights of individuals with respect to examination and treatment of emergency medical conditions and women in labor. Specifically, signage was not posted in patient treatment rooms in the Emergency Department (ED) and Labor & Delivery Unit (L&D).
Findings:
During a tour of the Columbia Memorial Hospital (CMH) ED on 10/23/13 at 8:40 am, signage was noted in the ED registration waiting area and corridor in the main ED. There was no signage present in patient treatment areas. During a tour of the CMH L&D unit on 10/23/13 at 10:00 am, signage was noted in the corridor of the unit. There was no signage present in patient treatment areas. This finding was confirmed during interview of the Patient Safety Officer on 10/23/13 at 10:40 am.
