Relative Humidity in Anesthetizing Locations
Findings:
The inspector observed, while accompanied by the Director of Facilities Management, during the hours of the inspection from 1:30 PM to 4:30 PM on 07/14/2016 that there were the following issues:
A) The facility failed to maintain relative humidity, RH, within the minimum and maximum limits. Please note according to ASHRAE and State of Texas Regulations, the upper limit for RH shall be < 60% at all times. Per Hospital Licensing Rules (2007), the minimum limit for RH shall be > 30%.
The Standard:
Ventilating and humidifying equipment for anesthetizing locations shall be kept in operable condition and be continually operating during surgical procedures. - NFPA 99, Health Care Facilities Code. U.S.A.: NFPA; 1999: 5-6.1.1

Fire Alarm Initiating Devices
Findings:
The inspector observed, while accompanied by the Director of Facilities Management, during the hours of the inspection from 1:30 PM to 4:30 PM on 07/14/2016 that there were the following issues:
A) The facility failed to maintain integrity of the smoke detection system. In room " C10 Biomedical " there was a smoke detector with its dust protection cover attached.
The Standard:
(10.3.1) Visual inspections shall be performed in accordance with the schedules in Table 10.3.1 or more often if required by the authority having jurisdiction. (10.3.2) The visual inspection shall be made to ensure that there are no changes that affect equipment performance. - NFPA 72, National Fire Alarm and Signaling Code.
