Based on interview and record review, the hospital failed to designate a qualified person as the hospital's infection control officer to ensure the development and implementation of policies governing the control of infections and communicable diseases within the hospital. Findings:

In an interview on 3/07/12 at 1:00 p.m., the Director of Nursing (S2) reported she (S2) is functioning as the hospital's Infection Control Officer and is the person responsible for the implementation of policies governing the control of infections and communicable diseases within the hospital. When asked about her training and/or education in infection control, S2 reported other than nursing school she has not received any additional training or education in infection control. S2 reported she plans to attend training in infection control but has not as of the date and time of this interview. Review of training records confirmed S2 has no additional training in infection control other than being a licensed registered nurse.
