Based on visual observation the facility failed to assure that the fire alarm system was inspected, tested and maintained in accordance with the approved maintenance and testing program in NFPA 72. The fire alarm system gives a sense of security to offer an advance warning in fire and/or smoke emergency. This deficient practice could potentially affect 23 of 23 patients.
Findings:
During the facility tour and the record review, between the hours of 9:30am and 12:30pm, it was observed that the fire alarm panel was tagged with an impairment by the fire alarm contractor on 3/20/2013. The panel is indicating the source of the problem is within the panel itself.

Based on visual observation the facility failed to provide sensitivity testing on the building smoke detectors that are connected to the fire alarm system. The detectors offer a means of activating the fire alarm system to provide emergency notification to the occupants of the building. This deficiency has the potential to affect 23 of 23 patients.
Findings:
During the record review, between the hours of 9:00am and 12:30pm, it was observed that documentation to verify the smoke detector sensitivity testing was not available for review.
