Based on review of documents and staff interviews it was revealed the facility failed to provide training and education to all staff providing care to COVID positive patients. This failure was identified in three (3) of fourteen (14) staff providing care for COVID patients. (Staff #1, 2 and 12). This failure has the potential to adversely affect all patients.
Findings include:
1. An interview was conducted with the Chief Nursing Officer (CNO) on 9/28/20 at 1:46 p.m. She stated, "All staff who provide care to the positive COVID-19 patient and COVID recovering patients must have completed the training Caring for a COVID-19 Patient Checklist and have the competency for Personal Protective Equipment Competency PPE Guidance During Extended Universal Mask Use completed."
2. A review of the training for staff #1 revealed no documentation of the training titled " SM CIRH & IPR Division - Personal Protective Equipment Competency PPE Guidance During Extended Universal Mask Use" and no documentation of the training titled "Caring for a COVID-19 Patient Checklist."
3. A review of the training for staff #2 revealed no documentation of the training titled "Caring for a COVID-19 Patient Checklist."
4. A review of the training for staff #12 revealed no documentation of the training titled "Caring for a COVID-19 Patient Checklist."
5. An interview was conducted with the CNO on 9/30/20 at 2:00 p.m. She concurred staff #1 and 2 did not have the appropriate training for caring for the COVID patients.
