Based on document review, the facility failed to provide interpretive services to 1 of 2 deaf patients reviewed (Patient 3).

Findings Include:

1. Review of ADV-1 Interpretation (PolicyStat ID: 6558217) last approved 06/2019, indicated that in-person, telephone-based or video-based interpreting is available during all hours of operation; an adult family member or friend may be used to interpret.

2. Review of Patient 3's medical record indicated the patient was admitted to the unit on 12/2/21. The history and physical dated 12/03/21 at 11:49am indicated that the facility was to use ASL (American Sign Language) interpreter and/or family for communication. The medical record indicated that the family interpreted for the patient during visiting hours on dayshift and lacked documentation that interpretation services per an interpreter or family was provided on evening or nightshift. The MR indicated an ASL interpreter was not provided for the patient until 12/10/21 and 12/11/21 for 2 hours during those 2 days.
