Based on observation, interview, and record review the facility failed to maintain a clean and sanitary environment to avoid sources and transmission of infection as evidenced by 2 of 3 foley catheter collection bags observed touching the floor.

Findings include:

Observations on the morning of 1/29/24 reflected 2 of 3 foley urine collection bags were observed resting on the floor.

Review of the Catheter-Associated Urinary Tract Infections (CAUTI) last updated February 2017, https://www.cdc.gov/infectioncontrol/guidelines/CAUTI/index.html, reflected " Summary of Recommendations:
III. Proper Techniques for Urinary Catheter Maintenance...
...III.B.2 Keep the collecting bag below the level of the bladder at all times. Do not rest the bag on the floor.

Review of the facility policy #IPC 05.01 Titled "Bundle - Prevention of Catheter Associated Urinary Tract Infection" last updated 1/2023, reflected https://www.cdc.gov/infectioncontrol/guidelines/CAUTI/index.html as a reference for the policy but does not specifically refer to keeping the foley from resting on the floor.

During an interview with Staff #2, on the morning of 1/29/24, she verified that the foley bags should not touch the floor.
