Bringing transparency to federal inspections
Tag No.: K0050
Based on visual observation and record review the facility failed to maintain documentation for fire drills conducted during each quarter on each shift. Fire drills provide training on procedures in cases of a emergency. This deficient practice has the potential to affect 8 of 8 residents. 3 of 4 quarters in 2014-2015 were deficient.
Findings:
During the record review, between the hours of 9:00 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. the following fire drills were not conducted on all shifts.
2014 3rd and 4th quarters
2015 1st quarter
There were no other records for review.
Interview with the administrator revealed the previous facility staff were not performing and documenting fire drills as required by NFPA 101.

Based on visual observation the facility failed to assure the fire alarm system was installed to provide effective warning to all parts of the building. The devices installed for the system's activation shall be by manual, detection or extinguishing operation which gives a sense of security to offer an advance warning in an emergency.
Findings:
During the facility tour, between the hours of 2:30 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. the fire alarm panel was observed with a expired annual inspection. The last inspection was performed in 2013. NFPA 72 requires fire alarm systems to be inspected annually by a licensed contractor.
The administrator was unaware the fire alarm system had to be inspected because the system was not a requirement for this type of business occupancy.
