Based on interview, the hospital failed to meet the emergency (Stat) laboratory needs of the inpatients receiving care. This deficient practice was evidenced by the hospital's plan to transfer patients requiring stat labs and stat results to another hospital's emergency room to obtain stat lab work.

Findings:

An interview was conducted with SF2DON on 12/20/2021 at 12:15 p.m. She reported the hospital's contracted laboratory service did not have the capability to obtain and run stat lab studies for the hospital. SF2DON further reported if a physician ordered a stat lab on a patient, the patient would be transferred to another hospital's emergency room to obtain the lab work. SF2DON also stated if the patient needed a stat lab test, the patient was probably too sick to be in the rehabilitation hospital.
