Based on record review and interview, the hospital failed to ensure the patient's representative who had filed a grievance was notified, in writing, the steps taken to investigate the grievance and the results of the grievance process for 1(Patient #1) of 1 sampled grievance investigation reviewed.
Findings:
Review of the hospital policy titled, "Concern/Complaint/Grievance Process revealed in part:
Grievance - Generally, a grievance would require an investigation and/or may require management level personnel to resolve the grievance.
Grievance Process: #7 - The complainant shall receive a written notice of the committee's review.
Review of the hospital's grievance log failed to list Patient #1 and further review failed to reveal a written notice was provided to the responsible party for Patient #1.
Review of Patient #1's medical record revealed an investigation report dated 05/16/2019. The investigation regarding Patient #1 being left on a bedpan for an extended period and was initiated following a complaint by Patient #1's responsible party.
During an interview on 07/10/2019 at 1:45 p.m., S1Director of Quality Management acknowledged an investigation regarding Patient #1 was initiated on 05/16/2019 by S2Nurse Manager and confirmed the responsible party was not provided a written response regarding the hospital's investigation.
