Based on observation, interview and policy review it was determined the facility failed to ensure facility staff followed the facility infection control policy for urinary catheter management for one of four patients observed. (Patient #2) The total patient census on the unit was 10 patients out of 15 beds.
Findings include:
Review of the policy and procedure titled "Urinary Catheter Management", Number: U02-N, issued on 04/01/16 page (4 of 5) revealed under section (5. f) to keep the Foley bag off of the floor.
On 03/30/17 at 9:17 AM a tour was made of the (2) West nursing unit. Patient #2's attached catheter bag with urine in it was observed lying on the floor.
This finding was confirmed with administrative staff prior to the exit conference on 03/30/17 at 2:00 PM.
