Tag No.: K0211

Based on observation and interview of hospital administrative staff, the hospital failed to install Alcohol Based Hand Rub (ABHR) dispensers in the corridor with minimum spacing of 4 ft from each other.

Failure to maintain the proper minimum spacing of the ABHR dispensers from each other places the patients and staff at risk for possible injury from the spread of a fire in the egress corridor.

Findings include:

On 3/23/2010 the surveyor found that the spacing between the ABHR dispensers on the second floor, west wing hallway was less than 4 feet from each other. The space between the ABHR dispensers in the hallway between patient rooms: 236/232, 235/231, and 212/208 was 3.5 feet separation and the space between the dispensers for patient rooms 206/202 was 3 feet. The hospital engineering staff responded immediately by removing the ABHR and reinstalling the eight ABHR dispensers to be 4 feet or greater from each other in the second floor west hallway.

This was confirmed during an interview by the surveyor with S1 on 3/24/2010.
